How to play

A rhythm runner and music game: tap on the beat to jump spikes and pits or smash glass walls, and every on-beat jump adds an instrument to the track. 100 levels in 10 chapters, call-and-response bosses and seven power-ups on one run that only ever speeds up.

  1. The note runs on its own. Tap, click or press Space as it reaches each glowing ring to jump the hazard behind it.
  2. Jumps on the beat earn groove: hats, bass, chords, arp, lead and choir join the music one by one, and the multiplier climbs to x8 at FULL MIX.
  3. Taps with no ring near them strip an instrument away, and a crash strips two and costs a life before the run rewinds a bar.
  4. No ring under a low bar means stay down. Later chapters add glide (hold to float), flip (swap floor and ceiling) and dash (tap again in the air).
  5. Run through a gate to clear a level. Lose every life and the run ends.

About Bassline Bound

Bassline Bound is a rhythm game and endless-style runner where the soundtrack is your score sheet. A glowing music note races along a neon staff; tap as it touches each beat ring to hop spikes, pits, equaliser banks and speaker steps. Every jump inside the timing window earns groove, and groove brings in the band one part at a time: hi-hats, bass, chord stabs, an arpeggio, the lead hook and finally a choir for the FULL MIX, which pays eight times the points. Miss the beat and the track thins out; you hear exactly how well you are playing. The run never stops: the tempo starts at 104 BPM and only climbs, to 176 at level 100, while ten chapters bring new rules, from Neon Pulse and EQ Canyon through Cloud Glide, Offbeat Alley, Flip Side, Blackout, Accent Run, Laser Choir and Remix to the Encore finale. Every tenth level a boss plays a rhythm at you and you answer it note for note.

Bassline Bound is an original Rankeno Play game, launched in 2026. It runs free in any modern browser on phones and computers with nothing to install, the music is generated live as you play, and finished runs post to the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Bassline Bound tips and strategy

  • Watch the ring, not the hazard: the ring marks the take-off beat, and the spike or gap sits half a jump past it. At level 1 a PERFECT is within 55 ms of the beat and a GOOD within 120 ms; by level 100 the windows tighten to 36 and 74 ms.
  • Never tap just to keep the rhythm going. A tap with no ring near it costs an instrument, and low bars and high lasers hang where a jump would hit them; if there is no ring, stay on the ground.
  • Layers come fast early on: in the first ten levels two groove points add an instrument, so one PERFECT (two points) or two GOODs bring in the next part. Later chapters need up to six, which is why long PERFECT streaks matter.
  • A crash takes two instruments and a life, then rewinds to the last respawn bar with a clear runway bar in front of it at the same tempo. The hazard that got you is outlined in red, so you can read it on the way back.
  • Glide only works while falling: hop on the ring, then keep holding past the top of the jump to float over a wide gap, and let go once you are over the far edge. In dash chapters the second ring hangs in the air: tap it to smash the glass wall.
  • Save the Shield for boss phrases and dense late bars: a shielded hit costs nothing, not even the phrase you are answering. Golden Groove plays four bars PERFECT for you, which is the easiest way to reach FULL MIX on a fast chapter.

Bassline Bound FAQ

How do the bosses work in Bassline Bound?
Every tenth level ends with a boss. It plays a one-bar rhythm, and on the next bar the same rhythm comes at you as shockwaves, flips or glass walls to clear. Each phrase you answer without crashing knocks off one of its lights: 4 at level 10, up to 10 for the finale at level 100. Beating a boss gives back a life, up to five.
Does the tempo ever slow down after a crash?
It never slows down for a crash: the tempo is set by the total number of bars you have played, so it only ever rises. A crash rewinds the track to a recent bar but keeps the speed, and the Tape Slow power-up is the only thing that eases it, for four bars.
Is Bassline Bound free to play?
Yes. Bassline Bound is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Bassline Bound on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the landscape stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: tap anywhere to jump (hold to glide). On a computer: Space, ↑, W or Enter to jump (hold to glide).
How do the Bassline Bound leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; a run you leave part-way does not count. Played as a guest? Sign in within an hour in the same browser tab and your guest scores are posted too. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
