Pop coral bubbles, drop pearls, hold back the reef
- Drag to aim and let go to shoot. The dotted line shows the path up to one wall bounce, ending in a ring where the bubble will stick.
- Three or more of one colour pop. Bubbles cut off from the rock ceiling fall, and each extra falling bubble is worth more.
- Shots that pop nothing fill the REEF meter at the top. When it is full, the reef grows down one row.

How to play Bubble Reef
Aim the clam cannon and match three or more bubbles to pop them, then cut whole branches loose so they fall. Pearls in a falling branch multiply the bonus, and the reef only grows when you miss.

About Bubble Reef
Bubble Reef is a bubble shooter set on an underwater coral reef. A clam cannon at the bottom fires coloured bubbles into a reef that hangs from a rock ceiling, and each bubble snaps into the honeycomb grid where it touches. Match three or more of one colour to pop them; anything left hanging from nothing falls away, and a big fall pays far more than a pop. Instead of creeping down on a clock, the reef only grows after a run of shots that pop nothing, so careful aim buys you time.
Bubble Reef is an original game made for Rankeno Play and first released in 2026. It is free to play in any browser with no download, and finished runs are ranked on the Rankeno Play leaderboards. Later tides bring up to seven colours, reefs up to ten rows deep and a REEF meter as short as two shots, so a run keeps getting tighter until the reef finally reaches the line.
Bubble Reef tips and strategy
- Falls beat pops. A pop pays 10 points per bubble, but the k-th bubble of a fall pays 10 × k, up to 100 each, so cutting one stem that holds ten bubbles is worth 550 points before any pearl bonus.
- Pearls only count when they fall. Each pearl in a falling branch doubles that fall’s bonus, up to ×8, while a pearl popped in a colour match is simply lost. Pop the bubbles above a pearl rather than the pearl’s own group.
- Watch the REEF meter. Tides 1 and 2 allow 5 shots in a row without a pop before the reef grows, tides 3 and 4 allow 4, tides 5 and 6 allow 3 and later tides only 2. Every 12 shots inside one tide shorten the meter by one more, down to a single shot, and any pop empties the meter.
- Every fall of three or more bubbles charges the pufferfish by the size of the fall minus two. At 12 it rides in on the turtle as your next shot; fire it into the thickest part of the reef, because it bursts every bubble within two rings of where it lands.
- Use the swap. If the bubble in the clam has no good spot, tap the turtle or press S to shoot the other one first. New bubbles only come in colours still on the reef, so wiping out a colour also narrows what you will be dealt.
- Bank shots off the side walls reach gaps you cannot hit directly. While a shot bounces at most once, the preview ends in a ring exactly where the bubble will stick. Clearing a tide adds 300 points times the tide number.
Bubble Reef FAQ
When does the reef grow down in Bubble Reef?
Only after several shots in a row that pop nothing: 5 on the first two tides, falling to 2 from tide 7, and one fewer for every 12 shots you spend in the same tide, down to 1. There is no timer, and any pop resets the count. The run ends when a bubble sits across the dashed line above the clam.
What do pearl bubbles do?
A pearl sits inside an ordinary coloured bubble. If it falls with a branch you cut loose, that shot’s fall bonus doubles for each pearl, up to eight times. If you pop it in a colour match instead, the pearl is lost and earns nothing extra.
Is Bubble Reef free to play?
Yes. Bubble Reef is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Bubble Reef on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: drag to aim, let go to shoot (drag down past the clam to cancel); tap the turtle to swap. On a computer: Mouse: point and click to shoot; ← → or A/D aim; Space, Enter or ↑ shoots; S, Shift or ↓ swaps.
How do the Bubble Reef leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
