Tap falling neon tiles to play classical tunes

  • Tiles fall down four neon lanes. Tap each one as it crosses the glowing line to play its note.
  • Closer to the line scores more: PERFECT 10, GREAT 7, OK 4, times your combo multiplier (×2 from 10, ×3 from 25, ×4 from 50).
  • Keep long bars held until their tail reaches the line, and hit both halves of a gold-linked double together.

Touch: Tap a lane, use two fingers for doubles and keep your finger down on long bars

How to play Tempo Tiles

Tap each glowing tile as it crosses the strike line to play the next note of a classical melody. Keep three metronome hearts alive through a seven-song medley that speeds up as it goes.

  4. A missed tile or a tap in an empty lane costs one of your three hearts. Every 50 combo wins one back.
  5. Seven songs make an Act. Survive three Acts, each one faster, to earn a curtain call.

About Tempo Tiles

Tempo Tiles is a four-lane rhythm game in which every tile is a note. Tap a tile as it crosses the strike line and the game plays the next note of the melody, so a clean run sounds like the tune itself. The medley moves from Ode to Joy and the Minuet in G through Für Elise, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Rondo alla Turca and the can-can from Galop Infernal to Flight of the Bumblebee, each song quicker than the last, with long hold bars and two-lane doubles joining in as the show goes on.

A Rankeno Play original first released in 2026, Tempo Tiles plays free in any modern browser with nothing to install. Every melody is a public-domain classic, arranged note by note for the game, and its scores are ranked on the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Tempo Tiles tips and strategy

  • The timing windows are tight: within 45 milliseconds of the line is PERFECT, 90 is GREAT and 140 is OK. A tap up to 300 milliseconds early is simply ignored, so a nervous early tap is free, but a tap with no tile nearby costs a heart.
  • Your multiplier climbs to ×2 at a 10 combo, ×3 at 25 and ×4 at 50, so a PERFECT at ×4 is worth 40 points. Protecting a long combo is worth more than chasing a PERFECT on every single tile.
  • Each time your combo reaches a multiple of 50, a lost heart comes back, up to three. After a heart breaks you get a 0.8-second shield in which another miss resets the combo but takes no heart, so use it to find the pattern again.
  • Hold bars pay 2 points times your multiplier for every tenth of a second they are held, counted from the moment the head reaches the line. Letting go more than 0.12 seconds before the tail drops the hold and resets the combo, but it never costs a heart.
  • Lanes follow the tune: a rising note moves right, a falling note moves left, a big leap jumps two lanes and runs wrap around the edges. In Flight of the Bumblebee the chromatic runs cascade across all four lanes, so read the staircase instead of single tiles.
  • On a keyboard, rest your fingers on D, F, J and K or use the arrow keys. A mouse cannot press two lanes at once, so one click on either half of a double clears both halves; on a touch screen, tap doubles with two fingers.

Tempo Tiles FAQ

How long is a full show in Tempo Tiles?

Seven songs make one Act and a show has three. Act II plays the medley 15 percent faster and Act III 30 percent faster, and hold bars and doubles can turn up in any song. Clearing the last song of Act III ends the run with a curtain call worth 2,000 points for every heart left, after a little over nine minutes of music.

What costs a heart in Tempo Tiles?

Only two things: a tile that passes the line without being tapped, and a tap in a lane with no tile due at the line within 0.3 seconds. Dropping a hold bar early resets your combo but keeps your hearts. When all three metronome hearts are gone, the show is over.

Is Tempo Tiles free to play?

Yes. Tempo Tiles is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Tempo Tiles on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: tap a lane, use two fingers for doubles and keep your finger down on long bars. On a computer: D F J K or ← ↓ ↑ → play the four lanes (hold the key on long bars); a mouse click works too.

How do the Tempo Tiles leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
