Best Puzzle Games

A puzzle game lives or dies on whether you can see what it is asking. Our reviews start with solution legibility: given the pieces on screen, is the answer reachable by reasoning, or does progress depend on guessing what the designer had in mind? Cleverness that reads as arbitrary is a fault, not a feature.

Difficulty curve comes next. The reviews assess the ramp across the full level set, looking for teaching that arrives before the test and for a slope that challenges without stalling; a wall that cannot be read is marked down as heavily as a stretch that asks nothing. The last question is the one most lists skip: once the central gimmick has been understood, is there still a game underneath it, or does the loop repeat itself until the credits?

This page is sorted by the score our review gave out of ten, highest first, with the most recently reviewed title winning any tie so the list does not freeze in place. No puzzle is promoted for having more levels, and none is penalised for being short — a tight set of good problems beats a long set of filler. Whatever a game costs and whichever platforms it is sold on are shown on its own row, from the store data attached to the product, rather than claimed in the copy.
