About Grapple Glide

Grapple Glide is a one-button swinging game. A little paper-lantern robot crosses a dusk valley by shooting a silk thread at glowing pegs: hold to grab the highlighted peg, swing like a pendulum, and let go to fly. Your speed comes from timing the release well, and the gold arc drawn on each swing marks the sweet spot. The course never ends, but it changes as you go, with sliding pegs, pegs that crack and snap, wind gates, bounce mushrooms, rings and more and more thorns between ever wider gaps.

Grapple Glide is an original Rankeno Play game, launched in 2026. You can play it for free in any modern browser with nothing to install, and every finished run can post to the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Grapple Glide tips and strategy

  • The thread only fires at a peg that is ahead of you, or nearly overhead, and above you, within about 11 metres. If nothing is highlighted, holding does nothing yet, so keep the button down and the thread fires the moment a peg comes into range.
  • Each PERFECT adds 3 points times your combo, so a streak pays 3, 6, 9, 12 and then 15 for every swing after that. Any release outside the gold arc drops the combo back to zero, which costs far more than one cautious extra swing.
  • Holding on longer is safe: once a peg is caught, the thread reels in to a length whose swing clears the brambles, and every forward stroke climbs a little higher. If the gap ahead looks long, take one more swing before you let go.
  • Amber pegs show a shrinking ring and snap 1.5 seconds after your first grab, even if you have already let go, so plan to leave them on the first upswing.
  • Wind gates push only while you are flying, never while you hang from a peg. Let go just before one to ride the tailwind forward or the updraft up.
  • Mushroom pads catch a fall only if you land on top while dropping, and they throw you high into the air without breaking your combo. They are a rescue rather than a shortcut.

Grapple Glide FAQ

Where exactly is the PERFECT window in Grapple Glide?

It is the gold arc on your swing, from about 34 to 72 degrees in front of the peg, and it only counts while you are swinging forward and up at a decent speed. A PERFECT release multiplies your speed by 1.12 and adds a forward kick, and the arc brightens whenever a release would count.

Does Grapple Glide get harder the further I go?

Yes. Over the first 2,400 metres the gaps between pegs widen, the pegs sit at less friendly heights, and sliding pegs, cracked pegs, thorn stalks and floating thistles turn up more often. After that the difficulty stays at its peak, but every gap is still built to be crossable.

Is Grapple Glide free to play?

Yes. Grapple Glide is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Grapple Glide on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the landscape stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: press and hold anywhere to grapple; lift your finger to let go. On a computer: Hold Space, Enter, ↑ or W to grapple; release to let go (mouse: hold the button).

How do the Grapple Glide leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
