Fly a paper plane, chain ink colours, fold away bullets

  • Your plane fires on its own. Drag anywhere on the screen, move the mouse, or use the arrow keys or WASD to fly.
  • Defeated origami may drop an ink blot in its own colour. Three of one colour in a row upgrade that weapon: red spread, blue beam, green homing darts.
  • Let bullets brush past without touching the dot in the middle of your plane to fill the FOLD meter, then double-tap, right-click or press B to clear the screen.

Touch: Drag anywhere to fly (the plane moves with your finger) · double-tap or two-finger tap to fold

How to play Paper Squadron

Pilot a folded paper plane over an origami sea. Shoot paper cranes, frogs, boats and pinwheels, chain three ink blots of one colour to upgrade a weapon, and graze bullets to charge a fold shockwave.

  1. Your plane fires on its own. Drag anywhere on the screen, move the mouse, or use the arrow keys or WASD to fly.
  2. Defeated origami may drop an ink blot in its own colour. Three of one colour in a row upgrade that weapon: red spread, blue beam, green homing darts.
  3. Let bullets brush past without touching the dot in the middle of your plane to fill the FOLD meter, then double-tap, right-click or press B to clear the screen.
  4. Every 8 seconds without a hit raises your multiplier, up to ×8. A hit costs a plane and resets it.
  5. A fortune-teller boss arrives every 5th wave. You have three planes.

About Paper Squadron

Paper Squadron is a vertical shooter in which everything is cut and folded paper. Your plane glides over a layered paper sea dotted with origami islands while waves of paper cranes, hopping frogs, paper boats and spinning pinwheels fold in from the top of the screen. The plane fires by itself, so the whole game is about where you fly: weaving between bullets, lining up under targets, and choosing which ink blots to pick up. Each blot extends or restarts a colour streak, and every third matching blot upgrades red spread shots, a blue piercing beam or green homing darts, up to level 4.

Paper Squadron is an original Rankeno Play game that first launched in 2026. It plays free in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer with nothing to install, and every finished run can post its score to the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Paper Squadron tips and strategy

  • Your plane can only be hit at the small dot in its middle, a radius of 4 units on a 540-unit-wide screen. The wings are just paper, so a bullet that crosses a wing tip does nothing.
  • The multiplier climbs one step for every 8 seconds you go untouched and tops out at ×8, which takes 56 seconds. A boss worth 500 points pays 4,000 at ×8, so staying clean matters more than chasing every crane.
  • Paper boats always drop ink when they fold, frogs and pinwheels drop it 60 percent of the time and cranes 30 percent. Whole formations share one paper colour, so a flock of blue cranes is the quickest way to finish a blue streak.
  • Picking up a different colour throws away your current streak. When two blots are falling close together, fly around the wrong colour instead of through it.
  • Each bullet counts once towards the 24 grazes the FOLD meter needs, and grazes do not count while you are flashing after a hit. Save a full meter for the fortune teller: the shockwave clears every bullet on screen and gives 1.2 seconds of safety.
  • Watch the fortune teller’s pockets. The one that glows before the flaps open names the next pattern, and during Fortune Ring the gap in every ring is aimed at where you were when it fired, so drift sideways through it.

Paper Squadron FAQ

What happens when Paper Squadron’s plane gets hit?

You lose one of your three planes, your multiplier drops back to ×1, your ink streak is cleared and the weapon you are using loses one level, though never below level 1. Bullets close to the plane vanish and you get 2.4 seconds of protection. Beating a fortune teller gives back a lost plane, up to three.

What do the three ink colours do?

Three red blots in a row upgrade the spread shot, which fans out 3, 5, 5 and then 7 paper needles. Blue powers a beam that pierces everything in its column and widens with each level. Green adds homing paper darts beside your twin needles, 1 to 3 per volley. Completing a streak also switches you to that weapon, and a streak for a weapon that is already at level 4 adds a multiplier step instead.

Is Paper Squadron free to play?

Yes. Paper Squadron is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Paper Squadron on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: drag anywhere to fly (the plane moves with your finger); double-tap or two-finger tap to fold. On a computer: Arrows / WASD fly (hold Shift to fly slowly); B, X or Space fold; mouse: the plane follows the pointer, double-click or right-click folds.

How do the Paper Squadron leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
