How to play

Avalanche Run is a top-down downhill skiing game with an avalanche on your tail: carve through the flags for speed, tuck down the fall line, throw tricks off the kickers and keep ahead of the rolling snow wall. One non-stop descent takes you through ten chapters and 100 levels, and the slope only gets faster.

  1. Hold left or right of the centre of the screen (or press ← → / A D) to carve that way; the further out you hold, the harder you turn. Let go and the skier points straight downhill and tucks after a moment, which is the fastest way to ski.
  2. Pass between the two flags of every gate. Each one kicks your speed up and adds a step of FLOW, and a missed gate drops the chain back to zero.
  3. Hit a kicker and tap, click or press Space while you are in the air: every tap starts the next trick. Finish the last trick before you touch down, or you wipe out and lose most of your speed.
  4. Watch the snow meter in the top corner, which counts the metres between you and the avalanche. A tree, a rock, a net or the wall itself costs one of your lives.

About Avalanche Run

Avalanche Run is a downhill skiing game seen from straight above, and the snow is coming after you. The slope starts at 36 km/h and its cruising speed keeps climbing toward 83 km/h, while a soft white avalanche rolls down behind the skier, never faster than a skier going straight in a tuck at the same spot, and a long chain of clean gates or a coat of Turbo Wax is what pulls you clear of its rumble. Turning sheds speed and pointing straight down the fall line gains it back, so every carve is a small trade. Gates are how you buy that speed back: each pair of flags you ski between gives an instant kick and adds to your FLOW chain, worth up to 12 per cent of extra pace. Kickers, mogul bumps, chalet roofs and cornices on the ridge throw you into the air for grabs, spins and flips. The run never stops for a menu between levels; a level is just a checkpoint line across the snow. Ten chapters each bring a new mountain: the Bunny Slope, a Pine Forest of tree walls, Moguls, slippery Ice Fields, a Night Run lit by lanterns with snow groomers crossing, a Village Run of fences and chalet roofs, Glacier Crevasses with snow bridges, a Blizzard of side gusts and rolling snowballs, the narrow Peak Ridge and finally The Big Mountain, where all of it returns. Every tenth level ends at the BIG DROP cliff, and levels 5, 15, 25 and so on are POWDER RUN bonus stretches of gold gates.

Avalanche Run is an original Rankeno Play game, released in 2026. It plays free in phone, tablet and desktop browsers with nothing to install, and every run that starts from level 1 is ranked on the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Avalanche Run tips and strategy

  • Let go of the screen whenever the line ahead is clear. After 0.4 seconds pointing straight the skier drops into a tuck worth 12 per cent more speed. The avalanche is never allowed to beat a tuck at its own spot on the slope, so the tuck holds your ground and the gates and FLOW are what pull you ahead.
  • A gate pays 100 points times your FLOW, which climbs by one per gate up to ×10. Gold gates on POWDER RUN levels pay triple and the lantern gates of the Night Run pay double, so a long chain there is where big scores come from. Missing a gate or wiping out sets FLOW back to zero.
  • Trick points are the sum of the tricks in one jump multiplied by how many you landed, and half again on top for a clean, straight landing. The first tap is a grab worth 100, then a 360, a backflip worth 400, and every trick after that is worth 600.
  • The meter at the top right turns amber when the wall is under 12 metres back and red under 6. From level 11 the avalanche surges: SURGE! flashes a second ahead and the wall runs a quarter faster for 2.5 seconds, so ski straight until it passes. Climbing back out from under 5 metres to a safe gap pays an ESCAPED bonus of 500.
  • Power-ups unlock as you go down the mountain: Turbo Wax from level 1 (4 seconds of extra speed with free carving), the Shield from level 2 (it takes one hit), the Magnet from level 3 (8 seconds of snowflakes flying to you), the Snow Plough from level 6 (5 seconds of smashing trees for 50 points each) and Ghost from level 11 (5 seconds of skiing through trees and huts).
  • Every descent begins with three lives, and up to five can be banked. The first life lost on levels 1 to 3 is forgiven, every POWDER RUN level hides a heart, a second heart waits on levels 27, 37, 47 and onward, and landing the BIG DROP after a chapter with no life lost gives one back.

Avalanche Run FAQ

Can the avalanche in Avalanche Run go faster than I can ski?
Never faster than a skier tucking straight down the slope at the place where the wall is. It moves at its own pace for the level, speeds up for a short surge from level 11 and is pulled along when it falls far behind, but all three stay under that tuck speed. If it catches you, you lose a life, it is pushed back 25 metres and you carry on from the same spot.
How do I stop wiping out when I land a jump?
Count your tricks against the height of the jump. Each tap queues the next trick, and a trick still spinning when your skis touch the snow is a wipeout. Landing more than 25 degrees off the fall line is sketchy and costs some speed, and more than 45 degrees is also a wipeout, so stop carving in the air and the skis swing back straight on their own.
Is Avalanche Run free to play?
Yes. Avalanche Run is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Avalanche Run on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: hold left or right to carve; let go to tuck; tap in the air for tricks. On a computer: ← → or A D carve; ↓ / S tuck; Space or ↑ / W trick in the air.
How do the Avalanche Run leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; a run you leave part-way does not count. Played as a guest? Sign in within an hour in the same browser tab and your guest scores are posted too. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
