About Physics Poker

Physics Poker is five-card draw poker played for points, with the cards as physical tiles. Each hand, five tiles bounce off pegs down five glass tubes and settle on flipper arms. You hold the cards you want and draw once; the arms open, the discards fall away and new tiles drop in. A run is ten hands, each from a fresh deck, scored from Jacks or Better up to a Royal Flush.

It grew out of Physics Poker Slots, released for iPhone and iPad in 2012. Rankeno Play rebuilt it to run in the browser, free, with leaderboards. It is played for points only.

Physics Poker tips and strategy

  • A held pair of Jacks or better can only improve, so it guarantees points and keeps your streak. Keep it rather than chasing four to a flush, which only 9 of 47 cards complete.
  • A pair of 2s through 10s scores nothing, but drawing three to it can make two pair (20), three of a kind (30), a full house (90) or four of a kind (250).
  • With three of a kind, hold only the three and draw two. Discarding both odd cards doubles your chance of four of a kind (250) compared with keeping one of them.
  • With two pair, hold both pairs and draw one card. Four of the 47 cards left in the deck turn the hand into a full house worth 90.
  • An open-ended straight draw such as 5-6-7-8 has eight cards that complete it; an inside draw such as 5-6-8-9 has only four. Aces play high or low, but straights never wrap around.
  • A hand that scores nothing resets the streak multiplier. Early in the run that reset costs every hand that follows; on the tenth hand nothing follows, so a long draw risks only that hand.

Physics Poker FAQ

What is the best hand in Physics Poker?

The Royal Flush, ten to ace in one suit, worth 2000 points, or 4000 with a full ×2 streak. Below it come the Straight Flush at 500, Four of a Kind at 250 and the Full House at 90.

Does a pair of tens score in Physics Poker?

No. The lowest scoring hand is Jacks or Better, a pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings or Aces, worth 10 points. A final hand with only a pair of Tens or lower scores nothing and resets your streak.

Is Physics Poker free to play?

Yes. Physics Poker is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Physics Poker on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: tap a card or HOLD to keep it; tap DRAW, then NEXT HAND. On a computer: 1–5 hold or release a card; Space / Enter draw and next hand.

How do the Physics Poker leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
