Letter Lattice

Trace words across a honeycomb before time runs out

  • Drag through touching hexes to spell a word, then let go. Or tap hexes one by one and tap the last one again.
  • On a keyboard just type: the matching path lights up. Enter submits, Backspace edits, Esc clears.
  • Words need 3+ letters and score by length: 3-4 letters 10, 5 = 20, 6 = 30, 7 = 50, 8+ = 110. No repeats.

About Letter Lattice

Letter Lattice is a timed word search on a honeycomb of 37 lettered hexes. You have 90 seconds to find as many words as you can by tracing paths through touching hexes, using each hex once per word. Longer words score far more, gold hexes multiply a word’s score, fuse hexes swap in fresh letters around them when used, and words that run only along the outer ring earn the Lattice bonus.

Letter Lattice is an original game made for Rankeno Play and first released in 2026. Each board is generated to hold roughly 170 to 340 findable words, and when the round ends the results screen lists up to ten words you missed, longest first.

Letter Lattice tips and strategy

  • Three- and four-letter words both score 10, while eight letters or more score 110. Plurals and other forms count as separate words, so try extending each find with S, ED or ING.
  • A gold hex moves only when you use it and letters change only in fuse blasts, so a long gold word can wait for the Gold Rush, when that hex pays ×3.
  • Use a fuse when the letters around it have run dry: the fuse and its neighbours get fresh letters. Play any word you’ve spotted in that patch first, because the blast replaces it.
  • Each outer hex touches only two other outer hexes, so Lattice words are unbroken runs around the 18-hex ring. Read the ring clockwise and anticlockwise for runs of four or more letters.
  • When you type, the game picks the matching path with the most gold hexes, then an all-rim path, then the most fuses. Trace by hand if you want to avoid setting off a fuse.
  • Keep tracing as the clock runs out: a new valid word still on your path at zero is scored automatically, with Gold Rush multipliers applied.

Letter Lattice FAQ

What words count in Letter Lattice?

Any word of 3 to 10 letters in the game’s dictionary of about 124,000 English words, traced through touching hexes with each hex used once. Each word scores only once per round, even if it appears again after a fuse blast. The Qu hex counts as two letters.

What is the Gold Rush in Letter Lattice?

The Gold Rush is the last 15 seconds of the 90-second round. Each gold hex in a word then multiplies its score by 3 instead of 2, so a word through both gold hexes earns ×9 instead of ×4. The Lattice ×2 bonus still applies on top.

Is Letter Lattice free to play?

Yes. Letter Lattice is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Letter Lattice on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: drag through hexes, or tap them one by one. On a computer: Type letters, Enter to submit, Backspace to edit, Esc to clear.

How do the Letter Lattice leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
