How to play

A typing game over a night city: type the word on each falling meteor to zap it with the laser tower, link words letter to letter for a chain multiplier, and type golden letters for power-ups, across 100 levels in ten chapters with boss phrase meteors.

  1. Type the word on a meteor. The first letter locks the laser tower on it and every correct letter zaps it; the last letter bursts it.
  2. On a phone or with a mouse, use the keyboard under the city, and tap a meteor to lock onto it.
  3. A word that starts with the last letter of your previous word is a chain and raises your multiplier, up to x8.
  4. Type a golden letter to get its power-up straight away. Backspace drops your target; Enter fires a stored EMP.
  5. A meteor that reaches the dome breaks a shield. You start with three; lose them all and the city lights go out.

About Typing Meteors

Typing Meteors is a typing game set above a city at night. Meteors fall toward the shield dome over the rooftops, each one carrying a word, and the laser tower in the middle of town fires one beam for every correct letter you type. Finish the word and the meteor bursts into sparks. The twist is the chain: when the next word you finish starts with the last letter of the one before, the multiplier climbs, and the meteors that would continue your chain glow with a little link badge, so every word is a choice between the safe target and the one that keeps the chain going. Compound words split into their two halves when you finish them, golden letters hand out power-ups the moment you type them, and every level lights up more of the skyline. There are 100 levels in ten chapters, from Dusk Suburbs, Neon Downtown and Comet Alley to Harbor Lights, Frost Ring, Shower Season, Mother Clouds, Eclipse, Aurora Drift and the Starfall Finale, each adding a new kind of meteor: split meteors, fast comets, gift satellites, ice crusts, meteor showers, mother meteors that drop pebbles, shadow meteors that hide their letters and drifters that weave.

Typing Meteors is an original game made for Rankeno Play and first released in 2026. It is free to play in the browser on a computer keyboard or a phone screen, and runs are ranked on the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Typing Meteors tips and strategy

  • Watch for the link badge. Chaining raises the multiplier by one, up to x8, and the multiplier counts on every letter (10 points each) and every word (25 points per letter, half again for a word typed without a typo). A word that breaks the chain only lowers the multiplier by one, but a meteor that reaches the dome resets it to x1.
  • Every typo jams the laser for about a fifth of a second, so accuracy beats speed. Mashing keys gets you nowhere.
  • Finishing a meteor in the lowest part of the sky pays a CLOSE bonus of 100 points times your multiplier, but only if you are sure you can finish it in time.
  • Golden letters show the power-up they give under the word: Slow time halves the falling speed for 6 seconds, Shield adds a city shield (up to five), Auto-type lets the tower finish the three lowest words, Score x2 lasts 12 seconds, Split shot makes each letter hit every meteor that needs it for 8 seconds, and EMP is stored until you press Enter or tap its key.
  • Use Backspace, or tap another meteor, when something lower is about to land: it drops your current word and you can lock on to the urgent one.
  • Boss levels arrive every 10th level as a giant meteor carrying a phrase. Each word you finish knocks it back up the sky, and beating it gives a shield back.

Typing Meteors FAQ

Can I play Typing Meteors on a phone?
It plays well on a phone: the game draws its own keyboard under the city, so the phone keyboard never pops up. When a tap lands between two keys and only one of them fits a word on screen, the game takes the one the meteor needs, and you can tap a meteor to lock the laser onto it.
How do chains work in Typing Meteors?
After you finish a word, look at its last letter. If the next word you finish starts with that letter, the chain multiplier goes up by one, to a maximum of x8, and a lightning bolt links the two bursts. Meteors that would continue the chain wear a small gold link badge.
Is Typing Meteors free to play?
Yes. Typing Meteors is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Typing Meteors on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: tap the on-screen keys; tap a meteor to lock onto it; tap EMP when it lights up. On a computer: Type letters a-z; Backspace drops the target; Enter fires a stored EMP; click keys or meteors with the mouse.
How do the Typing Meteors leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; a run you leave part-way does not count. Played as a guest? Sign in within an hour in the same browser tab and your guest scores are posted too. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
