How to play

A bricks-and-balls block breaker: drag to aim, let go to fire your whole volley, and shatter the numbered glass blocks before the wall reaches your shields. Heat builds as blocks break, so one great bank shot can clear the board, across 100 levels in 10 chapters.

  1. Drag anywhere above the launcher, or move the mouse, to aim. The dotted guide shows the path up to the first bounce.
  2. Let go, click or press Space to fire every ball you have. Each hit takes 1 off a block’s number, and at 0 it shatters.
  3. Break 5 blocks in one volley for HEAT ×2 and 10 for ×3: every hit then counts double or triple. A ball that banks off the side walls twice before it touches any glass runs cold: half damage and no heat.
  4. Each turn the wall drops a row. A block that reaches the glowing barrier breaks a shield and blasts the bottom two rows; with no shield left the run ends.
  5. Catch rings for more balls and powers like the Fireball, Laser node and Splitter. Tap during a volley to fast-forward; long volleys speed up by themselves.

Controls

  • Mouse: point to aim, click to fire
  • ←/→ or A/D aim (hold Shift for fine steps)
  • Space, Enter or ↑ fires
  • During a volley, a click or Space fast-forwards
  • P or Esc to pause

On a touchscreen: Drag to aim and lift your finger to fire (lift it below the launcher to cancel); tap during a volley to fast-forward.

About Volley Blocks

Volley Blocks is a ball shooter in the bricks-and-balls style: you aim once, your whole volley leaves the launcher in a stream, and the balls rattle between numbered glass blocks until the last one drops back to the floor. Each hit knocks a point off a block, and every turn the wall comes down one row. What makes it different is heat. Break five blocks in a single volley and every hit counts double; break ten and it counts triple, so one shot that slips behind the wall can melt a whole board. Instead of losing on the first block that gets through, you have shields: a block that reaches the barrier shatters one, and the shockwave clears the two lowest rows. The run is 100 levels in ten chapters, from Neon Hall to Overdrive, and a level lasts five turns at first and up to nine near the end. Every chapter adds a new kind of block (bombs that chain, prism wedges, ice that refreezes, armour that only breaks from below, splitters, shifters, phase blocks, healing hives, portal pairs and surge rows), a boss block waits at every tenth level, and the chapters keep remixing after level 100.

Volley Blocks is an original game made for Rankeno Play and first released in 2026. It runs free in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer with nothing to download, and finished runs by signed-in players are ranked on the Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Volley Blocks tips and strategy

  • Get behind the wall. A ball that slips through a gap into the space above the blocks bounces between the ceiling and their tops, hitting again and again, and that is how most giant volleys start.
  • Heat counts breaks, not hits, so aim first at blocks with small numbers: once five of them shatter, the rest of the volley hits at double strength.
  • Bomb blocks hit all eight neighbours for their full starting number when they break, so a bomb sitting next to a cluster of tough blocks is worth an early shot.
  • Blocks one step from the barrier glow red. Clearing every one of them in the volley before they would land scores a CLUTCH bonus of 250 points times the level.
  • Rings add balls from the next turn (+1, then +2 rings from level 2 and +3 rings from level 21). Past 300 balls each extra ring adds power instead, so keep catching them all run long.
  • Ice blocks refreeze to full strength at the end of every turn unless they break within one volley, and armoured blocks only take damage from below. Aim under them, or save a Fireball, which pierces straight through.

Volley Blocks FAQ

What happens when a block reaches the bottom in Volley Blocks?
It breaks one of your shields instead of ending the run. The shockwave destroys every block in the two rows above the barrier, and play carries on. You start with 3 shields and can hold up to 5: beating a boss block or catching the rare shield pickup gives one back. When a block reaches the barrier with no shield left, the run is over.
How does heat work in Volley Blocks?
Heat counts the blocks broken during the current volley. At 5 breaks every hit deals double damage (HEAT ×2), at 10 it deals triple (MELTDOWN ×3), and it starts again from zero with the next volley. A Heat Surge pickup makes the next volley start at ×2 straight away. A ball that banks off the side walls twice before it touches a block runs cold and turns a dim blue: its hits do half damage and add no heat, so aim at the glass instead of zigzagging across the empty floor.
Is Volley Blocks free to play?
Yes. Volley Blocks is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Volley Blocks on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: drag to aim and lift your finger to fire (lift it below the launcher to cancel); tap during a volley to fast-forward. On a computer: Mouse: point to aim, click to fire; ←/→ or A/D aim (hold Shift for fine steps); Space, Enter or ↑ fires; during a volley, a click or Space fast-forwards.
How do the Volley Blocks leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; a run you leave part-way does not count. Played as a guest? Sign in within an hour in the same browser tab and your guest scores are posted too. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
