About Orbit Hop

Orbit Hop is a one-button arcade game about timing. Your ship circles a planet, and a tap launches it in a straight line from its orbit. Fly into another planet’s capture ring to fall into a new orbit, ideally grazing the gold band above the surface for PERFECT combo points. Each orbit has a timer, so you must keep moving, and the climb gets harder with smaller planets and rings, faster orbits, sliding planets and comets.

Orbit Hop is a Rankeno Play original, first released in 2026. It runs free in the browser with no download, with scores ranked on Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Orbit Hop tips and strategy

  • A PERFECT needs your closest pass to fall inside the thin gold band. Aim too low and the ship clips the atmosphere for a BUMPY catch, which earns no PERFECT bonus and resets your combo.
  • The combo pays 5, 10, 15, 20, then 25 per PERFECT on top of the planet’s 10. One plain catch resets it, which costs more than any stardust cluster, worth 10 points at most.
  • Your first three launches show a full aim line: gold means PERFECT, teal a plain catch, red a miss. Use them to learn where on the orbit the tap has to land.
  • Comets only strike a ship in flight and always cross the gap between your planet and the next, clear of the rings. When a red warning appears at the edge, keep orbiting until it passes.
  • Below 35 percent the timer arc turns amber, with beeps at 3, 2 and 1 seconds. The timer shrinks from about 6.5 to 3.5 seconds by planet 30, so line up your launch early.
  • From planet 10 some planets slide side to side. A launch from a sliding planet inherits its sideways drift, so time the tap to the swing as well as to your place on the orbit.

Orbit Hop FAQ

What is a PERFECT in Orbit Hop?

A PERFECT is a smooth catch where your closest pass to a new planet falls inside the gold band just above its surface. It adds 5 points per combo step, up to 25, on top of the planet’s 10. A plain or BUMPY catch on a new planet resets the combo.

What ends a run in Orbit Hop?

There are no lives. A run ends when a launch misses every capture ring and leaves the side of the playfield or flies for 4.5 seconds, when an orbit decays into the planet after its timer runs out, or when a comet hits the ship in flight.

Is Orbit Hop free to play?

Yes. Orbit Hop is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.

Can I play Orbit Hop on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: tap anywhere to launch. On a computer: Space, Enter, ↑ or W to launch.

How do the Orbit Hop leaderboards work?

When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; guest scores are not saved. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
