How to play

Fast top-down football, eleven a side, with aftertouch: flick to shoot, then swipe while the ball flies to bend it around the keeper. Win your way through ten cups played on mud, ice, sand, rooftops and floodlit grass.

  1. Drag anywhere to run with the player in the white ring. A quick tap passes to the team-mate in your running direction, and a fast flick shoots along the line of the flick.
  2. For half a second after any kick you have aftertouch: swipe sideways to bend the ball, back to lift it, or forward to keep it low.
  3. Without the ball, a tap is a slide tackle. Control jumps by itself to the team-mate best placed to win the ball back.
  4. Each level is one match. Win it to move on; lose it and you replay the level and lose one of your three lives. A draw goes to golden goal, then penalties.
  5. Run over glowing tokens for power-ups such as Rocket Boot, Turbo, Magnet Feet and Super Swerve.

About Swerve Cup

Swerve Cup is a top-down football game with eleven players a side on a tall pitch that scrolls with the ball. You control one player at a time, marked by a white ring and an arrow, and control moves by itself to whoever is best placed. The heart of the game is aftertouch: for half a second after a kick you can steer the ball, bending a shot around a diving keeper or lifting a cross over a defender. A match lasts about a minute at the start and two to two and a half minutes by the end. The tour runs through 100 levels in ten cups (Park Pitch, Mud Cup, Seaside Wind, Floodlit Night, Frozen Lake, a seven-a-side Rooftop, Desert Sand, Rain Derby, Autumn Leaves and The Lantern Cup), each with its own pitch and a cup final against a side with a trick of its own, from a giant keeper to twin strikers.

Swerve Cup is an original game made for Rankeno Play and first released in 2026. It runs free in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, needs no download or sign-up to start, and every finished run can be entered on the ranked Rankeno Play leaderboards.

Swerve Cup tips and strategy

  • A goal is worth 500 points before bonuses, and the bend adds to it: a shot that curves 20 degrees or more is a SWERVE! (+300) and one that curves 40 degrees or more is a BANANA! (+800). Swipe early in the half-second window, because the spin keeps turning the ball for the rest of its flight. Goals in the last five minutes on the match clock, or in golden goal, are worth 400 more.
  • Three first-time passes in a row set off a five-second Surge: your whole team runs 15% faster, and a goal scored in it earns 300 more. Tap while a pass is still on its way and your player plays it first time the moment it arrives.
  • Passing moves pay: each completed pass in the move before a goal adds 10% to that goal, up to double for a ten-pass move, so keep the ball rather than shooting from the first chance.
  • Rivals show their slide tackles with a short crouch and an amber dot over the head, and their shooters wind up for a moment with the same dot. Change direction when you see it and the slide misses; tackle during the wind-up and the shot never comes.
  • The win bonus is 1,000 points plus 250 per goal of margin (up to four), 500 for a clean sheet, 500 for winning in golden goal or on penalties and 3,000 for a cup final, all multiplied by the number of the cup you are in, so a win in the tenth cup is worth ten times one in the first. A cup final win also gives an extra life (you can hold five), and from level 21 a rare Extra Life token can appear on the pitch.
  • Keepers remember your last six goals. Repeat a finish two of them share, from the same spot, at the same side and with the same bend, and the keeper reads it: he goes early, dives further and pops READ IT! when he saves it. Change the spot, the aim or the bend to beat him. A shot from 28 metres or more that is caught, blocked or goes out for a goal kick gives the other side a quick counter.

Swerve Cup FAQ

What happens when a Swerve Cup match is level at full time?
It goes to 30 seconds of golden goal, where the next goal wins. If nobody scores, a penalty shootout decides it: three kicks each, then sudden death. You flick to take your kicks, and when you keep goal you tap the left, middle or right of the screen (or press ← ↓ →) to choose your dive.
When do the power-ups unlock?
Rocket Boot is there from level 1, Turbo from level 2, Magnet Feet from 4, Super Swerve from 7, Wide Net from 11, Wall Keeper from 16 and Extra Life from 21. A new power-up always appears in the match where it unlocks, and tokens fade after nine seconds, so run to them.
Is Swerve Cup free to play?
Yes. Swerve Cup is free on Rankeno Play and runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. You can play straight away as a guest; a free account is only needed to save scores to the leaderboards.
Can I play Swerve Cup on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in mobile and desktop browsers, and the portrait stage scales to fit your screen. On a touchscreen: drag to run; tap to pass or slide tackle; flick to shoot; swipe again while the ball flies to bend it; in a shootout, tap a side of the goal to dive. On a computer: Arrows / WASD run; Space: tap to pass or tackle, hold and release to shoot; arrows while the ball flies bend it; ← ↓ → dive in a shootout; mouse: hold to run toward the pointer, click to pass, flick to shoot, move the pointer to bend.
How do the Swerve Cup leaderboards work?
When you are signed in, every finished run is submitted automatically; a run you leave part-way does not count. Played as a guest? Sign in within an hour in the same browser tab and your guest scores are posted too. Boards rank one best score per player (highest points first) for Today, This week and All time, globally or among your friends. Today and This week reset at midnight UTC, and the week starts on Monday.
