Best Productivity Apps

Productivity software is bought to remove work, not to add a place to do it, so the first test is narrow: name the one job the app exists to do and ask whether it does that job better than the tool you already have open. Feature breadth counts against an app when the breadth arrives before the core is finished.

The second test is the free tier. A trial that hands you everything and then removes half of it at the paywall is a different purchase from one that is honest about the line, so the review is explicit about what remains when the trial ends and what the subscription actually unlocks. Export is assessed in the same spirit: a clean, complete data export is the difference between adopting a tool and being held by one, and permissions that reach further than the job requires are called out in the review.

The ranking is our own published score out of ten, highest first, with the more recently reviewed app taking precedence when scores match. An app is not ranked by how many integrations it lists or by how well known its name is. Price and the platforms a title supports come from its row on this page rather than from this paragraph, and prices change — the row is the figure to trust.
