How we chose this list
Independent development is a budget, not a genre, so the honest question for an indie game is not whether it looks expensive but whether it knows what it is. We weigh scope against ambition: a small, finished idea that does one thing completely beats a sprawling one that runs out of time. Polish is judged where it changes the experience, never as a count of rough edges.
Price matters more here than anywhere else on the site, because a short game at a full box price and the same game at the cost of a coffee are different propositions. The reviews set the asking price against what it buys in hours and in ideas, and ask whether the originality is doing work or merely standing in for design.
Where a game leans on a well-worn formula, the review asks what it adds to it; where it invents something, it asks whether the invention is substantial enough to carry the game beyond its first playthrough.
The order is our published score out of ten, highest first, and where two games tie the more recently reviewed one comes up. We do not bump a title for being a solo project or demote it for being small; the score is the whole argument. The price you see and the platforms listed are taken straight from each row, whatever the store happens to be charging, so treat this text as the reasoning and the row as the facts.
